Light up your life with Lumie!

Light up your life with Lumie!

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you’ll probably be well aware of my sheer adoration for Lumie lights.

I guess my love affair started a couple of years ago, when my dear mum gave me a light to help me cope with my SAD? It genuinely has helped me to feel more energised in the mornings when I suffer the most with exhaustion.

What is SAD?

According to the NHS website, SAD (known as Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a form of seasonal depression and is most serve during December, January and February. If effects around 7% of the UK population and 17% of the UK population are affected by the ‘winter blues’ (see infographic below). It also affects about 1 in every 15 people from September, through to April (“Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)”, 2018).

SAD can hit you in many ways. For me I don’t tend to feel teary/ depressed/ anxious as such, though I feel 110% EXHAUSTED. Like, all the time exhausted. I find it difficult to sleep, when I wake up and it’s still dark outside I just can’t seem to actually “wake up”. During these darker months I tend to walk around in some sort of zombie state which not even the finest coffee can cure. I also really struggle to retain information and work to the best of my ability over these months. I don’t know about you, but my motivation is sky high when the sun rises just before 5am and sets around 9pm! Bring. On. Summer.

I definitely suffer with the winter blues… my energy is way down and I just lack any real buzz when it’s grey all the time and the light is so dull. I’ve often wondered what difference light therapy would make and whether it would help add a spark to these dreary days.

I’m the same Ian! All you need is a 30 minute charge with one of these in the morning (or throughout the day if you take to work) and it really helps energise you. I adore mine!

      Hi Calvin,

Due to cost of postage it’s only open to UK entrants. Sorry about that. They really are worth the investment though.

I think this would be great for my desk, where I sit so far from the window I get no benefit of natural light…

    • January 23, 2018 / 11:40 am

Hi Emmy! I totally get that! Very lacking of natural light in my office too, so even in the summer it’s quite dark in here!

This light will really help my other half, in the winter it’s hard to get him to get up and take care of himself properly but in the summer he tries all he can to be out in the natural light.

    • January 23, 2018 / 2:37 pm

I’m exactly the same, Samara. It can be really difficult. I feel like I’m half asleep most of the time, until the clocks change and mornings start to get lighter.
