If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you’ll probably be well aware of my sheer adoration for Lumie lights.
I guess my love affair started a couple of years ago, when my dear mum gave me a light to help me cope with my SAD? It genuinely has helped me to feel more energised in the mornings when I suffer the most with exhaustion.
What is SAD?
According to the NHS website, SAD (known as Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a form of seasonal depression and is most serve during December, January and February. If effects around 7% of the UK population and 17% of the UK population are affected by the ‘winter blues’ (see infographic below). It also affects about 1 in every 15 people from September, through to April (“Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)”, 2018).
SAD can hit you in many ways. For me I don’t tend to feel teary/ depressed/ anxious as such, though I feel 110% EXHAUSTED. Like, all the time exhausted. I find it difficult to sleep, when I wake up and it’s still dark outside I just can’t seem to actually “wake up”. During these darker months I tend to walk around in some sort of zombie state which not even the finest coffee can cure. I also really struggle to retain information and work to the best of my ability over these months. I don’t know about you, but my motivation is sky high when the sun rises just before 5am and sets around 9pm! Bring. On. Summer.
