Camping can be fun for all sorts of reasons, so it’s something that you might consider this year with your pals or family. However, there are plenty of things that you will need to put in place before you actually head out into the wilderness for a camping trip! These things will make your life easier, make the trip more comfortable and relaxing, and generally better for all of you. So read on to find out about these essentials!
A Sizeable and Waterproof Tent
A waterproof tent will be the most important thing of all because the last thing you want to be is unprepared for the elements! The weather can change very quickly, especially in the UK! Look for a tent that’s bigger than you need, too. Having that extra space will help with storage and you won’t be on top of each other either. According to Ethical Consumer magazine, Sprayway tents are 10/10 rated, and they’re fantastic value for money. A 6 man Sprayway tent would set you back around £250, or they do cheaper versions (2 man Sprayway tent) from about £75.00.
Quality Sleeping Bags
Your sleeping bags will dictate how well you sleep and how your back and limbs feel when you wake up in the morning. That’s why you should definitely not make the mistake of skimping on the sleeping bags you buy! Remember to invest in one which will be durable and last you years, think quality and pay a little extra for a decent one. It will pay off if you put the time and effort into finding the most comfortable ones possible, so don’t forget this.
You definitely need to have some camping chairs with you. You’d be surprised by how many people head out on a camping trip and forget to take basic and vital things like these with you. By giving yourself somewhere to sit that’s not inside the tent, you’ll feel less cramped and able to enjoy the splendour of your environment.
If you need to head out in the middle of the night, you’re going to need a light because the dark is really dark when you’re out in the middle of nowhere! Or even when you’re at a festival and you need to find your belongings in the middle of the night! It’s something that you won’t want to forget about when you’re packing your bag and heading out for a camping trip.
Awnings for Shelter and Protection
Awnings, view here for more, can offer you more shelter and protection when you’re camping. They simply attach to your van or vehicle and give you something to sit under if you want protection from the sun or even from the rain. It’s something that can really enhance your camping experience.
Food Preparation Tools
Preparing food is something you can’t ignore. You’ll be very hungry if you do! Unless you’re off to a festival, where they have loads of food vans around of course! Or you’re just taking foods which aren’t rapidly perishable! Obviously you don’t have to catch your own food in the woods (though the thought of foraging does kind of appeal to me), you will need to cook whatever food you take with you (if perishable!). Ensure you have a mini camping stove, some metal containers (Elephant box do some great ones, and I love their ethos) to serve food in and a cooler to store things in. You can add whatever else you need too. I’m really digging this Biolite stove which fits up to 4 burgers, you can boil water on it AND you can charge your phone at the same time, which is pretty cool.
You’ll want your next camping trip to be a lot of fun, whilst also being somewhat more comfortable than the vast majority of camping experiences out there. If you have all of the things above, you’ll certainly be able to achieve that and have a great time with your friends or family! So start buying up this stuff ASAP.
